Iceland was nominated as a Permanent Geohazard Supersite in 2013

The study area includes the most active volcanoes in Iceland including Bárðarbunga, Grimsvötn, Askja, Hekla, Katla and Eyjafjallajökull
Following this award, a considerable amount of satellite data was made available for both past and future satellite acquisitions, including new X-band images and historic C-band images. Satellite data awarded includes new COSMO-Skymed, TerraSAR-X and Radarsat-2 images.
